York Central N1
One off new build house.
A loading bay in a former industrial building was transformed into a light filled contemporary house. A mortgage was only available to the client if a viable apartment could be constructed within 12 weeks of purchase. This near-impossible task, proved a driving force for the design, which was mostly prefabricated off-site and featured a fully glazed facade overlooking a new courtyard garden.The scheme was published in The Architects Journal.
The largest loft-space in London at the time of construction;
Cantilevered Iroko deck;
Economical birch-faced flooring panels;
Creation of a 60 ft glass facade using a highly modified glazing system.
Duration - 14 weeks (with successful mortgage inspection at 12 weeks.)
